5 Years of Blanket & Board: Food, Healing, and Community

Hi Friends,

It’s been a while actually, a long while but that’s okay.

This month marks five years since I started Blanket & Board, and I’ve been reflecting on how far this little dream of mine has come. What began as me creating self-care picnics in my backyard has grown into a movement I could never have imagined.

When I graduated from grad school at the University of Pittsburgh, all I wanted was to use my training as a therapist to facilitate community healing. It was during the pandemic, when the world felt so heavy, especially after the murder of George Floyd, that I leaned into food as a tool for connection.

Who knew that something as simple and beautiful as charcuterie boards, picnics, and grazing tables could bring people together in such meaningful ways? Five years later, I’m reminded that the need for connection, healing, and intentional time together is even more urgent than ever.

A serene picnic setup at Point State Park features a cozy arrangement of colorful cushions and blankets, a variety of snacks on a low table, and decorative lanterns, perfectly illuminated by the warm rays of the setting sun.

Rest, Reflection, and Renewal

This past year, I’ve stepped back to center myself. Running a business nonstop for five years taught me so much, but it also required rest and resetting. I’ve spent more time being present as a mom, traveling, learning, and re-finding the version of myself outside of constant hustle.

It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it. I’ve realized that success isn’t just about growth or numbers it’s about being a better mom, daughter, friend, and community member. As much is a love feeding my community i throughly enjoy feeding my little boy. We went to Barbados for his birthday and he ate all the lobster he could lol.

Food as Healing in Challenging Times

As food costs rise and the world feels increasingly disconnected, I want to remind you of something important: healing and health don’t have to be expensive. Sometimes, it’s as simple as gathering around a table, sharing a meal, and holding space for one another.

At Blanket & Board, our mission has always been to create spaces for connection, joy, and intentional conversation through food, through artful design, and through community. That hasn’t changed.

What’s Next for Blanket & Board

As I step into this next chapter, I’m hopeful. I see Blanket & Board evolving in new ways ways that continue to honor our roots in self-care, creativity, and community healing, while adapting to what our world needs right now.

Whether it’s through grazing tables, wellness-centered food experiences, or intimate gatherings, I’m excited to keep exploring how food can heal, inspire, and connect us.

So here’s to the next five years rooted in rest, grounded in purpose, and always centered around community.

With gratitude,

Tierra
